Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Julia Colingsworth

Organist/Chancel Choir Director

Julia became, at age nine, the Sunday School accompanist at her home church, Kalamazoo First Methodist. Six years later she began her career as a church organist at Parchment and has been a church organist and choir director ever since.

She double majored at WMU in Elementary Education and Music Education, and later went back for a Master of Music degree. She has a second Master’s degree in Family and Child Ecology from Michigan State University.  Her career has included teaching classroom and music in K-12, and more recently, social work, specifically child welfare.

Julia is devoted to her four adult daughters, four adult stepchildren, and 19 grandchildren.  Her hobby is finding host families for, and supervising, high school age international exchange students, many of whom she has housed herself, along with her late husband.
She joined the FUMC staff in 2006 and very much enjoys playing our Harrison and Harrison English built pipe organ.
